At 52 years old, June came to Surge looking for a solution to the menopause symptoms that were affecting her daily life. Despite attending HIIT classes five to six times a week and Reformer Pilates twice a week for several years, she continued to struggle with knee pain, low energy, and weight gain. During her first session, even a bodyweight squat caused discomfort, showing that simply exercising more wasn’t enough to achieve the results she wanted.comfort.

Working alongside her trainer, Grace, June focused on progressive strength training while making meaningful changes to her nutrition and daily habits. She became more intentional about her protein intake, planned ahead for social occasions, and consistently increased her daily movement. These sustainable lifestyle changes helped her build strength, improve her recovery, and create lasting progress without sacrificing the things she enjoyed.
Over the next 10 months, June lost 8kg, reduced her body fat from 35% to 17%, and progressed from struggling with a bodyweight squat to performing a 47.5kg barbell back squat, almost matching her own bodyweight. More importantly, she gained the confidence to enjoy holidays and social events without worrying about losing progress, knowing she had the tools and habits to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“Training at Surge taught me that menopause doesn’t have to hold me back. By focusing on strength, better nutrition, and sustainable habits, I’ve become stronger, more confident, and no longer worry about losing my progress, even when I travel.”
